Dear: a Device and Energy Aware Routing Protocol for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

چکیده
Energy efficient routing has been the subject of intensive study in recent years. Most work has been focused on residual battery power related cost metrics for a homogeneous ad hoc network where all the nodes are considered identical in terms of functioning and available resources. In this paper, we propose a Device and Energy Aware Routing protocol (DEAR) for a heterogeneous wireless ad hoc network with two different classes of nodes, externally-powered nodes and battery-powered nodes. We embed both the energy and the device awareness into the routing protocol so that externallypowered nodes would forward more traffic and perform more routing functions. The simulation results show that DEAR protocol achieves better system lifetime when compared to the conventional energy efficient routing protocols. Keywords-energy efficient routing, wireless ad hoc networks, sensor networks, minimum energy networks, power aware metrics

In recent years, mobile ad-hoc networks have been used widely due to advances in wireless technology. These networks are formed in any environment that is needed without a fixed infrastructure or centralized management. Mobile ad-hoc networks have some characteristics and advantages such as wireless medium access, multi-hop routing, low cost development, dynamic topology and etc. In these netwo...

Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) are composed of mobile stations communicating through wireless links, without any fixed backbone support. In these networks, limited power energy supply, and frequent topology changes caused by node mobility, makes their routing a challenging problem. TORA is one of the routing protocols that successfully copes with the nodes’ mobility side effects, but it do...

متن کاملAn On-Demand Energy-Efficient Routing Algorithm for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are non-infrastructure networks which consist of mobile nodes. Since the mobile nodes have limited battery power, it is very important to use energy efficiently in ad hoc networks. In order to maximize the lifetime of ad hoc networks, traffic should be sent via a route that can be avoid nodes with low energy while minimizing the total transmission power. In addition, considering...
متن کاملImproving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...
